Publications By Dr. Witherspoon

Foundation Maintenance – This publication is an eight page guide of how to maintain a
foundation. Published by the Foundation Repair Association, it provides the homeowner or property owner with the basic understanding to limit foundation problems in expansive clay.

Expectations of Underpinning – This publication describes in both words and pictures how
remedial underpinning works to support a failed foundation. Published by the Foundation Repair Association, it provides a detailed explanation of pier/pile performance in foundation repair.

Residential Foundation Performance – This book was written by Dr. Witherspoon to describe in
layman terms why foundations fail and what methods are used to restore integrity. Published by the International Association Foundation Drilling (ADSC) it has been adapted by several organizations as their recognized source for evaluating foundation problems. Dr. Witherspoon donated all proceeds from the sale of this book to ADSC’s scholarship program.

Load Capacity Testing and Analysis of Residential Underpinning Systems in Expansive Clay
Environment - This publication is Dr. Witherspoon’s doctoral dissertation and it provides the only research of its kind that shows a side by side comparative testing of piering and piling in expansive clay in Irving, Texas. The ground breaking results of this study have already brought about changes in the industry that benefit homeowner, building owners and the contractors who install remedial underpinning.
